Fortunatus Dwarris (361)

Dwarris Fortunatus (1727–5 February 1790) was a physician, slaveholder, and a member of the American Philosophical Society, elected in 1775. Born in Jamaica, he began his education at Eton, then studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge, graduating in 1748, before pursuing his M.D. at Leyden University, earning said degree two years later. He returned to Jamaica and settled in his inherited plantation, Golden Grove, and opened a medical practice.
